COMPARATIVE STUDY OF PHOTON SCATTERING PROPERTIES OF SOME GLANDULAR BREAST AND STANDARD BREAST TISSUES

Abstract
The comparative study of coherently scattered photon radiation in radiographic imaging
application is examined using the Monte Carlo simulation. Breast tissue of five different
categories in relation to their glandular percentage variations were used and compared with the
standard breast tissue (50 % adipose-50 % glandular) at 10 keV and 15 kev incident energies for
the purpose of differentiation. The comparison of the intensity of scattered photon for 10 keV
incident X-ray energy of the Glandular sample of the breast tissues with respect to standard
breast varied sparingly while that of the 15 keV incident X-ray energy increased in slight
proportions with respect to their percentage glandular variability. Therefore, the results have
shown that Monte Carlo simulation technique was able to identify differences between the
scattering profiles from the standard breast and glandular breast tissue samples using X-ray
scatteringmethod. This however will serve as an alternative for mammography imaging
technique.
